Pie Safe’s were introduced by the Pennsylvania Germans in the 19th century. It was originally used to store pies and other baked good before the invention of the refrigerator which is where its name is derived from. The punched tin was traditionally used for ventilation to help keep the baked goods fresh. This reproduction piece will be a great additional to your colonial style home!

This handsome double door Pie Safe is available with hand punched tin doors or solid oak raised panel doors. Pie Safe’s were introduced by the Pennsylvania Germans in the 19th century. The Amish Pie Safe with Copper, Tin or Raised Panel Wood Doors is handcrafted by the Pennsylvania Amish.

The Heritage Pine Collection includes a large assortment of pine furniture, including pine entertainment centers, pine hutches, pine bookcases, pine cabinets, pine benches and more.

On the whole, our Heritage Pine Collection has a rustic, country appearance fitting the grain of pine wood. Each piece is finished to give it a unique look with a variety of finish options: stain, color varnish or distressed look. The large variety of finish and paint options make the pine furniture from the Heritage Pine Collection both fun and popular.

This pine furniture can be transformed into a piece of art with the numerous designs that are available for cabinet or drawer faces, hand painted by resident artists. Stain, color and design combinations are limitless and can be chosen to fit the décor of a particular room or tie a set of furniture together with a special theme. This pine furniture is frequently used in informal kitchens, country lodges, children's rooms, and a variety of dining rooms and living rooms.

Available stains in our Heritage Pine Collection are harvest (light and natural pine look), rustic (light and rustic pine look), cherry (medium brown with a tint of red), and mahogany (darker with warm brown tones). After the stain is applied to the pine furniture, it is sealed with a topcoat of varnish.

Color varnishes may also be used in finishing our pieces in the Heritage Pine Collection to create a cottage painted or distressed appearance. These colors include sage, hunter green, blue, light blue, light green, yellow, red, plum, antique white, mustard and black. Prior to application, the surface of the pine is lightly sanded for maximum penetration. The colored varnish is then applied and sealed with another coat of wax varnish. Pine holds nails and screws soundly and glues, paints and varnishes well. Because of the unique qualities of pine, it is regularly used for numerous applications including carvings and sculptures, doors, trim, paneling, cabinetry, furniture, toys, musical instrument components, caskets, boxes, and veneer.

Eastern White Pine is straight grained with a fine, uniform texture. It has more knots than hardwood and can yellow with age, which adds to its charm.

The pie safe was an important piece of furniture in American history. Our solid wood pie safes are not antiques but they have the look and feel of the one you remember in your Great Grandmother’s kitchen. All of our pie safes are handcrafted by Dutch Amish craftsmen using Old World techniques. A pie safe will help to complete a country touch to your home décor as well as provide you with useful storage.

Pie Safes have been used for hundreds of years to store a lot more than just pies! Pies, cakes, breads and all other types of baked goods were stored in pie safes. Storing the baked goods away in the pie safe kept them safely away from pests and helped them to last longer. The punched tin door panels that are popular on many styles were used to circulate air in the cabinet and also keep out bugs, dirt and hungry kids. The ventilation also helped to keep the baked goods cooler. Sometimes pie safes were a combination of a pie and canned goods storage.

The pie cabinet or pie safe was most likely introduced to the United States by the German people that immigrated to Pennsylvania and became known as the Pennsylvania Dutch. The Pennslyvania Dutch offered a new furniture solution to the problem of storing your baked goods. This new functional and fashionable furniture cabinet was very in style in the 1800 before the iceboxes were introduced. We don’t often store our baked goods in the pie safes anymore but they are still fashionable for storing a variety of other things.

Our solid hardwood Amish furniture comes with a manufacturer's one year warranty. If any defect in the manufacturing of the product becomes apparent in the first year after its delivery, we will repair or replace the piece at no cost to you. This warranty does not cover damage to the furniture because of misuse. Of the thousands of customers we have served, we've only had a handful that needed a warranty service!

With proper care, your Amish furniture will last a lifetime - far beyond the warranty that we offer. In the rare occasion that a defect occurs, it is usually discovered well within the first year.
